High school sailing at Sail Sand Point takes place in FJs and c420s. Sailors between the ages of 13 and 18 are eligible to join the high school team. Eighth graders may participate if they are experienced and prepared (minimum 100lbs, maturity level compatible with high school students), although competitive opportunities may be more limited. The high school team is focused on practicing for and competing in regattas associated with NWISA, the Northwest Interscholastic Sailing Association, which governs high school racing in the Northwest. Sailors on either active high school teams (4+ participating sailors) or inactive teams (without enough sailors) are welcome to participate. Sailors without active high school teams may still compete in regattas with Mixed or Open fleets (often referred to as Silver). Sail Sand Point hosts many sailors from a variety of schools in the Seattle area. If you are curious about the status of your local high school team, ask the SSP coaches! Sailors looking to join the High School Sailing Team should be competent, self-driven sailors with a passion for sailing and competing. Some experience sailing is typically required - inquire for more details.
