YMCA volleyball leagues are designed to develop fundamental volleyball skills while learning teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship. Skills taught include serving, passing, setting, hitting, and the rules of the game. The focus of the league is to have fun, meet new friends and play volleyball in a non-competitive environment. This league is coed. All coaches are volunteers. All teams will practice once a week for one hour and play a game on Saturdays at either the Dale Turner Family YMCA or another community gym. Participants will need to have their own knee pads for practices and games; all other equipment is provided by the YMCA.
Players should wear shorts/sweats, t-shirt/sweatshirt, and athletic or basketball shoes.
Players need to purchase a jersey if they do not own one from the Spring 2016 season.
Water bottles are recommended.
VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED! All coaches at the YMCA are volunteers.
Coaching at the Dale Turner Family YMCA is not about developing a winning team, it is about developing a winning child. We do not stress WIN, we do stress team work and individual development. We also stress sportsmanship and most of all FUN! Volunteer coaches are the heart and soul of our league. It is the coach that has the most contact with the players, and it is the coach that will help the children form their opinions of sports in general. It is an awesome responsibility, but incredibly rewarding. Games start October 8.
