The YMCA's Indoor Soccer League is open to members and non-members from age 5 through grade 6. Teams are co-ed. Indoor soccer is just like soccer played outside, with one notable exception; it's played in a gym. The advantages are many. First, you're playing soccer in a controlled environment, meaning no weather hazards. No rain, no cold wind. No sun beating down on you. Second, parents, relatives and friends are much closer to the action. You get to see everything as it happens and as it develops. Third, the playing field--the court--is shorter and narrower, so there is much more action, and more opportunities to score! And then, of course, there are the walls, which gives the players even more of a chance to score because of the bounces and angled shots off the wall. This is really fun soccer for kids. Coaches are volunteers and the emphasis is on fun and learning the sport of soccer. Everyone plays at least 50% of every game regardless of ability. Practices and games are once a week. Practice schedules (Day & Time) are decided by what you sign up for when you register. Games are held on Saturdays starting October 8. If we do not have enough players to form teams for a certain night, we will combine teams from different nights to form teams.
Each player is required to wear shin guards covered by socks at all practices and games. Players should wear shorts/sweats, t-shirt/sweatshirt, and athletic shoes. No cleats allowed. Water bottles are recommended. Players must have jersey/t-shirt. Fee for new jersey/t-shirt is $10VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED! All coaches at the YMCA are volunteers. Coaching at the Dale Turner Family YMCA is not about developing a winning team, it is about developing a winning child. We do not stress WIN, we do stress team work and individual development. We also stress sportsmanship and most of all FUN. Volunteer coaches are the heart and soul of our league. It is the coach that has the most contact with the players, and it is the coach that will help the children form their opinions of sports in general. It is an awesome responsibility, but incredibly rewarding.
