The South Orange Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs will once again offer the popular 'Learn to Ski' program for Maplewood and South Orange students in grades 3 through 8. Children will be transported by chartered bus from The Baird in South Orange to Camelback Mountain in PA on 5 consecutive Wednesdays beginning January 4, 2017. The bus will depart at 3:30 pm each Wednesday and return at approximately 9:40 pm.
Camelback Mountain is well staffed and well suited for beginner and intermediate skiers. Upon arrival, participants will receive the equipment and group lessons (if applicable). Children will then have approximately 2 hours of independent ski time.
Registration begins October 24, 2016 in person only at the Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs at the Baird.
Registration Deadline: November 11, 2016. No exceptions!
THE FOLLOWING REGISTRATION PROCESS IS REQUIRED. BOTH transactions MUST be completed with Department of Recreation staff at the same time.

- Transportation, chaperones/supervision and administration: $210
- Lift Ticket: $89 (REQUIRED FOR ALL)
- Ski/Board Rental: $55 (if needed)
- Lessons: $45 (if needed)
- Helmet Rental: SEE NOTE BELOW
Helmets can be rented through Camelback during the online registration process as described above. HOWEVER, the rental fee is $50 and helmets CAN BE PURCHASED FOR LESS elsewhere. In addition, The Loft, located at the mountain, sells them for $48. An order form is available at the Baird. If parents order by November 30th, Department Ski Chaperones can pick up helmets for children on the first trip.
Skiers must complete registrations with the Recreation Department staff. Please read description above.
