Bio: Lynn Pelchar has a Masters in Education & wants to make a contribution to the community through Bricks 4 Kidz which provides educational activities using LEGO® Bricks and technical components. She is teacher, wife, and mother who enjoys cooking, gardening, walking, reading, and camping with her family. She is the mother of a remarkable daughter who has Down syndrome and they are both very involved in the special needs community. My name is Patti Yocum and I am happy to be part of the extended day program at Young Scholars Charter School. I work with the STEM based curriculum Bricks4kidz. I have been teaching and working with students for many years. I taught kindergarten for 5 years and pre-school for 1 year in Southwestern Virginia. After moving to Pennsylvania, I was the lead teacher for 3 ½ years in the 2-year olds classroom at a local daycare. I am currently starting my third year as a kindergarten Para-professional in the State College School District. In working with Bricks4kidz, it gives me the chance to interact with the students and witness their creativity as they build with LEGO bricks. Thank you for this opportunity. Goals: Bricks 4 Kidz® is a STEM-based educational program which uses LEGO® components to teach principles of science, engineering, and architecture. Each model that we build comes with its own curriculum, so the students learn some facts about what they build. Our program fosters creativity, excellent motor skills, teamwork, trouble-shooting skills, and teaches how the components in our proprietary kits works together. Our building plans come in varying levels of difficulty and can present healthy challenges to all builders. Many of our models use gears and axles, and are motorized.
