Class Description: Students will study Native American art and culture. Various tribes will be covered, including local tribes, while examining how art is incorporated into customs, symbols, and ceremonies. We will learn about the process, methods and materials the Native American’s used to create art, clothing, housing and other items. Students will be making their own pieces in a similar fashion. Projects include; shields, dream catchers, talking sticks, weavings, Kachina dolls, vest and par flèche. Teacher: Dona Steele has lived in Steamboat on and off for over 35 years and has a long history with the Steamboat Springs Arts Council serving with the Visual Arts Committee. She helped develop the Kaleidoscope/Young at Art summer programs for the Steamboat Springs Arts Council. Her degree in Art Education and Constructive Design from Florida State University launched her into many careers. As an entrepreneur, she has spent over 20 years running and operating Dona Steele Designs, specializing in faux finishes and decorative painting.
