CLASS POSTPONED 1 WEEK AND CHANGED TO TUESDAYS! Bring your instrument and learn some American roots songs in a group setting. One-hour lessons are followed by an open jam session. Think: bluegrass, Cajun and Scot/Irish folk music. If you play an instrument and want to play with other like-minded musicians, this may be your opportunity. Across four weeks, we’ll take an hour each session to learn one or two songs of a particular American roots genre, particularly bluegrass. We’ll learn melodies, chord progressions, how to lead and accompany, and most of all we’ll learn to play and communicate socially. After class, an open jam begins, and community members are encouraged to join. You pay for the lesson; the jam is free. This four-week class is for those with some experience; students must be able to play either chords or melodies on their instruments. Suitable instruments: guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, ukulele, keys, and bass. The jams can include hand drums. No smoking and no alcohol, please. Pre-registration for the lesson portion is required.
