What's Included

Free Sampler Class! Videogames can open up a whole new world of imagination and creativity. Creating your own videogame pushes kids to explore different possibilities and scenarios. Learning to code through game creation is a fun and immediately rewarding way to begin solving problems and thinking like a coder. Learning any new language or skill learning to code takes practice, and with videogame creation practice is fun. Students will meet other likeminded kids and will be able to collaborate on games together and play together. Using Scratch, kids will learn how to code and develop their own videogame. Scratch is a popular introductory programming language made by MIT that uses building blocks of code that fit together to create a program, with no complicated spelling or grammar to worry about. Each week students will learn to create a new simple game which introduces gamemaking and fundamental coding concepts. These abilities can be incorporated into their own game which they work on throughout the course. At the end of this program, kids will understand how games work, important concepts shared by all games, steps in the game creation process, and will have been introduced to many core programming structures and skills that can be applied universally to any coding language. They are able to bring their games back home to build upon or improve on their games after the program is complete. Bring imagination to life today! New and returning Makers are welcome. Program Topics: ● Inputs and Outputs ● Cartesian coordinates ● loops ● if then conditional statements ● comparative operators (==, !=, >>) ● variables ● Logical operators (AND, OR) ● Levels and splash screens ● Gravity ● Side scrollers ● Character design
