About This Activity

10 x 2 hour classes every week. In this class children are introduced to how programming can be used beyond video games. The course starts with battery powered robots that students code to accomplish actual physical tasks. As an open-ended, exploratory program, kids are encouraged to push their boundaries and invent something awesome. The iterative design process is introduced, and kids face problems and challenges where there is no right solution but lots of possibly successful approaches. By coding real world objects, students will be able to see the results of their work, receive continuous feedback that will help them grow and develop transferable skills (technical skills, soft skills). We then move into the world of computers with fun activities such as creating secret codes and basic chat bots. Taking a look at some higher level programming languages like Python, kids will harness the power of automation in an operating system through the command line. Finally we approach the internet and how networked computers are able to talk to one another while also inspecting the code behind websites and making our own. New and returning Makers are welcome.
