About This Activity

Combustion is key to meeting society’s need for energy and will remain so for many decades. Improvements in measurement techniques and computational resources, and an increased fundamental understanding of combustion over the past 35 years have resulted in more efficient and reliable combustion devices. This course will explore the most significant challenge facing combustion right now: pollution emissions. Students will work in labs on basic flame dynamics, pollutant emission analysis, and tour a combustion research lab and device manufacturing plant. They will have the opportunity to investigate some of the major challenges in combustion research and propose solutions based on what they have learned.
