About This Activity

This course introduces students to the past, present and future of human and robotic space exploration, its latest technologies and major world programs. Students will delve into concepts on spacecraft systems, space operations, launch systems, and orbital mechanics. To begin, students will be introduced to coordinate systems in space and time, building foundations in calculus, vector algebra, and Newtonian physics. Students will learn problem solving tools and techniques used by engineering industry professionals. In addition, students will discover concepts of gravity as well as methods of space travel. They will learn the different types of orbits used for various space missions. Students will have the opportunity for hands on training in MATLAB. By the end of the course, students will have designed and solved a challenging spacecraft tracking and propulsion problem.
