About This Activity

Solar technology is a strong renewable resource: If only 0.4% of the total land is covered with solar cells, the need for today’s energy will be met. In this course, students will learn about the fundamentals of solar cells, including semiconductor devices, as well as the steps it takes to deliver the sun power to the residential and industrial appliances. With renewable resources, comes the need for storage technologies. Different storage technologies will be widely covered and the pros and cons of each will be discussed. This course will introduce hands-on experience with real solar generation through micro-controllers and custom hardware. It will be a challenge for you to maximize the net gain of the solar energy and store as much as you can, while you light up a high-brightness LED!
