About This Activity

Over the past 50 years, we have seen the development of glass fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) and other fibre-based polymers predominantly for aerospace and building industries. With new advances in manufacturing, FRP is being used in new ways for innovative building designs that are more environmentally sustainable, result in longer-life of an existing infrastructure through FRP repairs, and can be found in wind power and medical devices. This course will explore the strength of everyday materials, FRP, and its uses for buildings, power generation and medicine. Through a class project and presentations from guest speakers, students will learn what FRP is and how it can be used in new and innovative ways.
