The Seasoned Farmers program provides an educational experience for youth aged 8-13 to learn about the basic steps to grow and process food. Participants will learn the basic stages of food production, food processing, animal care and natural cycles in a weekly after school program during the spring season from March until June. Participants will receive a plot at Southlands Farm which they will plan, plant and tend to throughout the "season". This program will engage young people with food systems in an experiential learning environment and empower them to participate in decision making about where food is sourced and how it is grown. This program is designed to be a launching point for progression into further play, study, and work in agriculture and nature related fields.
