Improvisation 2 : The Improvised Play (14-17 years) Improvisation is a spontaneous, organic art form that can often display larger-than-life, high energy characters, in loosely tied together narratives, unlike it’s not so distant cousin, Theatre. But how true is this? Can improvisers show control and poise like those of directed actors? Are Theatre and Improvisation really that far apart, and can improvisers learn the techniques to craft the illusion that what they are performing isn’t being created on the spot, but rather a piece of directed stagecraft? In this class the students will spend time learning how to perform “The Improvised Play,” a long form format that aims to bridge the gap between spontaneity and direction. This is most definitely an improv class, but it may leave students feeling (almost) like seasoned actors! This exciting new offering is for those students who: – Have already studied improvisation and can demonstrate basic improvisational skills – Have the maturity, and willingness to work in an ensemble setting – Are ready to take their skills to the next level Scott Thompson has been working with Dave Morris and other master improv teachers for the past decade and is a member of the innovative theatre company Paper Street Theatre, which has been creating improvised plays for the public for the past four years to widening acclaim. Scott is a fantastic teacher and we hope those students who are ready for this new challenge will join us in this brand new course!
