The U.S. Kids Golf Learning Program is a proven method to introduce golf to young players ages 6-12. The program has a maximum student to instructor ratio of 6:1 and becomes more difficult as players advance through each of the three levels. The Level 1, 2, and 3 booklets provide the framework for both coaches and parents. The booklets provide instruction and examples of forms and skills and each level has checkpoints in five core areas: Putting, Around the Green, Full Swing, Knowledge and Scoring. As an incentive to advance through all the levels, players earn an achievement pin each time they complete one of the checkpoints. In order to pass each level, players must play nine holes from at least 1,500 yards (the distance of the Level 1 Family Tees at Gates Park) and meet the scoring requirement. The first day of class, each student will receive a booklet, bag tag, hat, pin scoreboard, and Waterloo Junior Morning Pass. As the student advances through the booklet and passes skill tests, they achieve pins. Once all five pins have been achieved, the student earns a Masters Pin indicating their completion of the Level. Classes will run 8 weeks and cost $120. Nate Lubs, Head PGA Professional at Gates Park Golf Course, is a U.S. Kids Golf Certified Coach and an expert in teaching golf to kids ages 12 and under. He makes learning fun by using game-based teaching methods and playing from scaled yardages on the golf course.
