About This Activity

Instructor: King Join 9th grade English teacher Mrs. Jillian King this summer for a fun and exciting course to explore and enhance all aspects of the writing process. Students will engage in numerous creative assignments to develop their written voice and learn how to clearly express their descriptive language, as well as their intentions, through essays, shorts stories, and poetry. The course will focus on major writing assignments such as, five paragraph expository assignments and literary analysis assignments. Students will focus on all aspects of the writing process including, pre-writing exercises, development of thesis statements, organization of supporting paragraphs, and meaningful revision. Additionally, students will employ vocabulary to enhance their written work and eliminate unnecessary words. Ample feedback of student writing will be provided by the instructor and time will be given for one-on-one writing conferences with the instructor. By the end of the course, students should not only feel more confident in the writing process and their own written abilities, but they will have a new appreciation for the power of written expression. Please bring a Composition Book. (Students may choose to bring a laptop/tablet device if they would like, but it is not required.) jking@wcsks.com
