Sites Seldom Seen: Cotton Creek Marsh

About This Activity

Description

Join a site steward and an educator as we tour a wetland area that is not otherwise open to the public. Explore beyond the trails of Cotton Creek to learn about projects improving the wetland quality and flood control while increasing habitat diversity. A dedicated Illinois State Nature Preserve, Cotton Creek Marsh contains 247 acres of high quality wetland on the Fox River floodplain. Besides the marsh the site includes sedge meadow, wet prairie, fen and successional fields. Sandhill cranes regularly nest in this preserve. Participants will receive directions and the meeting location after registration is processed. Be prepared for hiking on uneven and wet terrain.
