Street Skills Camp coaches girls on safe and legal road riding through fun games, challenges and riding adventures around the island. 7:2 Ratio We're more than a fun summer camp, we do individualized coaching with each camper to help them advance their skills on bikes and understand traffic laws,communicate with drivers for safest, predictable riding habits. We show kids how riding bikes in Alameda is fun and gives them transportation independence! Bike vest, snacks, BART/Ferry, movie included. Mon- Helmet fit, Bike safety check, Bike Skills practice with games and challenges on school blacktop, games and lunch at the park, bike lock demo and practice, short fun ride Tues- Discuss what to do if a bike crash happens, minor or major. Ride to model airplane field on Bay Farm to practice using gears to go uphill and on the track to go fast, 4-way stop intersection practice of right of way with car traffic on Bay Farm. Games and lunch at Tillman park. Wed- Ride to Alameda Theater for a movie, Lock bikes securely. Ride to a park for lunch and play, coaching on riding from home to school. Thurs- Ferry to ride in SF, Fisherman's Wharf Fri- Alameda Amazing Race, clues and challenges about Alameda fun facts, In N Out lunch. REQUIREMENTS 1. Student and parent/guardian MUST attend a free 2-hour Urban Cycling presentation (bikes not required) together prior to camp. There are 2 in Alameda, 4/25 @ Main Library and May 3, Alameda Bike Festival @ Bay Farm School. 2. Parents or guardians take registered rider with their bike and helmet to visit a bike shop for fit and mechanic/safety check no later than 2 weeks before camp. 3. Kids must bring all items on equipment list or purchase available items from Easy Street Cycling. Required items: * U-lock OR Heavy Chain * Looped end cable * Water bottle mounted on the bike OR a hydration pack like Camelbak * Kickstand mounted on the bike * Spare tube case of unpatchable flat.
