NO CLASS ON DATE TO BE DETERMINED. Second-grade reading level required. This course is designed for singers at any level from beginners to those with some experience. It is appropriate for both new and returning students. Students will be taught the basics of vocal technique for proper singing including voice placement and production, breathing, and phrasing. Students will receive guidance in finding their voice type, choosing appropriate audition material, and preparing for an audition. Each student will learn at least one solo song, and will receive ongoing coaching not only in proper singing technique, but in interpreting and performing the song. We will discuss the meaning of the lyrics and where the song comes from (the plot of the musical, the character who sings the song), and how to make the song come alive by not just singing it, but interpreting and performing it. Students will perform for each other in class. By the end of the course, each student will have a solo song ready to present for performance and to use as an audition piece. Students will perform their songs for an audience of family and friends at the last class of the semester.
