FIRST is a not-for-profit organization that encourages kids to explore science and technology through collaboration with mentors and teammates. In the spirit of FIRST’s mission and values, our programs focus on building self-confidence and STEM skills by providing kids with an inclusive and respectful environment. Participants will attend a regional championship event as well as present their work at Da Vinci Science Center during their final week. Participants will be divided into teams as follows: FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Jr.: (ages 6-10) Teams of up to six kids will explore a real-world problem (like food safety, recycling, energy, etc.) and use their new knowledge and creativity to build a motorized model of their discoveries out of LEGO parts. They will also create and present a Show Me Poster to introduce the team and share what they learned. FIRST LEGO LEAGUE: (ages 9-14) Teams of up to ten kids will research a real-world problem (like food safety, recycling, energy, etc.) and are challenged to develop a solution using their new knowledge, creativity, and imagination. They must also design, build, and program a working robot using a LEGO MINDSTORMS kit to complete “missions” on a table-top playing field. Teams compete against each other at exciting events where they make new friends, share their ideas and inventions, express team spirit, and celebrate their hard work! Included with registration: 2019-2020 Season T-Shirt. Custom Binder to record notes and ideas. Any materials used during the program. Transportation to and from regional competition for registered participant.
