About this event

NOTE: Winter class start dates are postponed due to increased Covid cases. Additionally, all students in on-site classes are required to provide proof of vaccination status and wear N-95 or KN-95 masks while on campus and in close proximity to others. Note: Class skips February 8. Students will learn traditional metalsmithing techniques like piercing, soldering, forming, texturing, and bezel setting to create jewelry of their own design or an assigned project. Emphasis will be placed on proper use of tools and materials to create a beautiful, well crafted, and comfortable jewelry item that will last years of wear. Projects range from rings, bracelets, pendants and earrings. Copper, brass, and tools are supplied by the studio, gemstones and silver will be students' responsibility to purchase. Instructor: Aalia Mujtaba Location: Jewelry Studio Day/Time: Tuesdays, 10:00-1:00PM About the Instructor: My Pakistani parents lived in the UK and Central America before settling in Atlanta, GA almost 35 years ago. Their collection of pottery, baskets, and textiles from the places we lived and traveled decorated every room in my childhood home. I remember being absorbed in the ornate, floral patterns on South Asian clothing and tracing the crisp, geometric maze of black pigment on Panamanian earthenware. My work seeks to bridge the aesthetic gap between these two styles and answer questions about my own identity as a Pakistani-American, artist, and mother. www.metaaliajewelry.com @metaaliajewelry on IG and FB.
