About This Activity

Explore fascinating aquatic environments including creeks, ponds, lakes and the San Francisco Bay. Hike along a rushing creek to a hidden waterfall and a beautiful lake and learn about the birds, mammals and amphibians that live in these special habitats. Investigate the inter-tidal bay shoreline and the unique habitat on the side of a dock. Discover the adaptations that help organisms survive in freshwater and brackish water ecosystems. Meet and study freshwater invertebrates, including damselflies, mayflies and crayfish, as well as brackish water bay life including shoreline crabs, blue mussels, sea lettuce and sea squirts. Learn about the importance of conserving freshwater for all life on earth and the actions you can take to conserve water every day. Make environmentally-friendly natural pesticides to take home and share with family, friends, and neighbors to help promote bay-friendly gardening habitat practices.
