About This Activity

Note: STEM Mash-Ups consist of morning and afternoon segments that cover two different topics, creating a well-rounded day. Two sessions of this combination are offered simultaneously, with the morning and afternoon content flipped. Sessions are otherwise identical. If your child is interested in taking a camp with a sibling or friend, please register them in the same session. You will select your preferred session once you reach the Active Network registration platform. Not So Mad Scientists Did you know that reactions are happening all around us, even within us all the time? Driven by curiosity, we'll explore the magic of chemistry in our everyday lives as we learn about atoms, molecules, elements and compounds, and test our theories with various experiments. We'll create hydrophobic sand to understand the dynamic power of water. Using acids and bases, we'll create exothermic and endothermic reactions. Next, we'll learn to measure pH and play with polymers, such as bubble gum and plastics. Finally, we'll explore simple chemical and physical reactions that appear to be magic, and use a bit of Chem-ARTistry to create our own one-of-a-kind t-shirt to take home! Boulder Rocks Grab your collecting bag, bring your love of rocks, and jump in the van as we explore the geology of the Flatirons and Boulder area. We'll spend the week outside in nature, hiking and exploring some of the area's best collecting sites while we learn about the life a rock, how mountains are made, how glaciers carved through the Rockies and other cool geology concepts. As a culminating event for our week together, we'll get a chance to test our climbing skills at Boulder's own ABC Climbing Gym! Food Contact Note: Campers will come in contact with eggs, various cereals, cool whip, graham crackers, marshmallows, M&Ms, apples, chocolate chip cookies, cornstarch, raisins/craisins, Skittles, Jell-O, and gummy worms/bears.
