Note: STEM Mash-Ups consist of morning and afternoon segments that cover two different topics, creating a well-rounded day. Life in Ponds and Streams What secrets lie beneath the surface of the streams and ponds in our area? What animal left those unusual tracks along the water’s edge? What kind of nest is that between the branches above? What is the name of that insect that buried its larvae beneath the mud? Are all things in a pond or stream ecosystem somehow connected? We will answer these questions and many more as we explore the water systems throughout Boulder County. We will look at the smallest animals under a microscope and catch larger ones with a net. We'll make a diorama of an animal in its habitat, and create cattails to learn about the importance of this plant in our local marshes. Join us for this watery outdoor adventure! Paint and Pixels From paint and pastels to pixels, we'll create innovative art in this fun, crafty camp that blends the science behind traditional art with technology. Each day, we'll use familiar tools like crayons, markers, paint and pastels, to make physical artworks that we can then transform in different ways using an array of iPad apps. We will learn about color theory and composition to create community-based artworks that are turned into postcards. We'll use geometric shapes to design our own community-based compositions to simulate how pixels accumulate to create image. Animation tools will help bring our drawings to life by adding movement! Campers will receive a list of suggested iPad art apps and activities to continue the fun at home.
