Description
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor course (r.24) is designed to equip instructor candidates with the essential skills and knowledge to effectively teach basic-level courses within the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program. This course emphasizes the critical responsibilities and teaching methodologies necessary for fostering a safe and engaging learning environment.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate the qualities of an effective American Red Cross representative and role model.
- Understand and identify the core responsibilities of certified Lifeguarding instructors.
- Deliver American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses in an engaging manner that meets established learning objectives.
- Articulate the foundational principles and competencies underlying the Lifeguarding curriculum.
- Utilize scientifically grounded content and resources to enhance course delivery.
- Implement American Red Cross benchmarks for lifeguards and facility operations.
- Effectively prepare, plan, and schedule Lifeguarding courses and modules.
- Apply a variety of teaching methods to engage participants and facilitate learning.
- Conduct skill practice sessions and evaluate participant performance with constructive feedback.
- Navigate instructor resources and administrative functions within the Red Cross Learning Center.
- Comprehend the procedures for reporting course outcomes and issuing participant certifications.
- Recognize ongoing responsibilities and next steps following certification, including maintaining instructor credentials.
- Adhere to the terms outlined in the American Red Cross Instructor Agreement and Code of Conduct.
Prerequisites:
To enroll, candidates must:
- Be at least 17 years old by the final course session.
- Hold a current basic-level certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding (including Deep Water), CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid.
- Successfully complete an online session and a prerequisite skill assessment scenario covering essential lifeguarding skills.
