Welcome back to the Chelsea Youth Soccer Academy! This fall, Community Education will be continuing its partnership with Chelsea Soccer Club to offer a new style of youth soccer in Chelsea. Youth will register by their age (ages 4 through 10) and will then work on developing their soccer prowess for six Saturdays. Each session will be split with the first half being small group skills and drill work led by the coaches. The second half of each session will be ?small side? scrimmages (3 vs. 3, 4 vs. 4 or 5 vs. 5) depending on age.
The benefits of this format include players developing essential coordination and motor skills that will benefit them in future athletic endeavors. The ultimate goal is to provide as many touches on the ball for each youth as possible.
Each youth will need their own youth soccer ball and their blue and gold reversible Chelsea youth sports jersey. If you have not participated in the Soccer Academy before, we will have the blue and gold reversible jerseys at the field the first week. When purchasing your own soccer ball, size 3 will be used for ages 4 ? 7 and size 4 will be used for ages 8 ? 10.
While qualified coaching staff from the Chelsea Soccer Club will be coordinating the youth soccer academy, as well as boys from the varsity soccer team, we still will need many parent volunteers to make sure we are able to keep our skills groups small and insure great game play during our scrimmages. If you are interested in being an assistant coach, you will not be able to register online. Please call the Community Education office at (734) 433-2208, Ext. 6074. Mandatory training sessions for assistant coaches will be held at the varsity soccer field behind Chelsea High School. Please check the website of with the office for dates and times. All assistant coaches should plan to attend a meeting.
