Join environmental educators at Dutch Gap Conservation Area to explore a vernal pool. Vernal pools are temporary bodies of water that are important for the survival of many animals, from slimy salamanders to rare turtles. Educators will guide participants to catch and view important inhabitants of these environmental wonders. Come prepared to be outside and get wet.
Program Information:
- Program is held outdoors.
- Guardians are required to accompany participants, no drop-offs.
- Hiking footwear is required.
- Recommended field gear to bring/wear: waders, rain or muck boots, nets and nitrile gloves.
- Distance traveled will be between 1 and 2 miles.
- Outdoor surfaces traveled on in this program include gravel and dirt trails with roots and uneven surfaces, steep hills, underbrush and muddy areas.
- This program includes visual, auditory and tactile elements.
