This Physical Science course satisfies the requirements for a high school lab class, even when taken during eighth grade. It will prepare students for success in Chemistry and Physics. Class time will be divided evenly between classwork and laboratory activities. The first semester focuses on unit conversions, organization and processing of equations, and writing in scientific language. Students also practice higher order scientific reasoning involving Physics concepts. The second semester covers Chemistry topics ranging from atomic theory, periodic table use, reactions, balancing equations, and acids and bases. Students will receive hands-on experience with laboratory equipment. All books, handouts, lab supplies, and the grading of all papers are included in the class price. Students will only be required to purchase safety glasses, gloves, colored pencils, a ruler, and a calculator. Successful completion of Pre-Algebra is a prerequisite for this class.
