Experience the excitement and gain the skills necessary to enjoy this popular Olympic sport. This program provides a "Good Sports" atmosphere, bringing together aspiring players weekly in an effort to learn and practice the fundamentals of the game. Our ASEP-Certified Volunteer Coaches provide a quality recreation environment for our players, parents, coaches, and spectators. The YVL is for novice to experienced players who wish to learn more about the sport. Registration deadline is September 5. Registration: 410-313-7275. Practices: Weekly practices are scheduled between 5-9 PM on a weeknight at a Recreation & Parks indoor facility depending on team placement and coach availability. During the registration process, please answer the custom question asking if there are any nights that you are unavailable for practice. League Director does his best to put each family at a location close to home.
Matches: Matches are on Sundays between 10am-4pm at Meadowbrook. Specific details on one-hour match/practice times are communicated after each season's skills evaluation. The season will conclude with a playoff tournament on Sunday, October 27.
Coaches: Teams are led by ASEP-Certified Volunteer Coaches. Coaches must join the Howard County Coaches Registry before the start of the season, this includes a concussion training, ASEP coaching course, and background check. Parent Volunteer Head Coaches receive a discount at registration, the fee is only $30. Please register in the appropriate section.
Team Formation: Players are placed on teams after a skills evaluation scheduled for Sunday, September 8. Balance of teams will be the first priority, and to help the league accomplish this goal, every player MUST attend the mandatory skills evaluation. Details about the skills evaluation will be emailed out prior to league start. Carpool requests must be made through our registration staff at 410-313-7275. League Director does his best to accommodate all requests but cannot guarantee them depending on evaluation scores and practice availability.
Jerseys/Awards: All players receive a match jersey. Trophies will be awarded to the playoff tournament champions for each age group.
Other Info: 12 player max per team, rotation policy ensures that all players receive equal playing time. Knee pads are recommended but not required. Jewelry, including ear rings, metal hair clips, and hair beads, shall not be worn by players during warm-ups and/or competition. These rules are in place for the safety of our YVL players and to alleviate any potential harm that could happen during physical activity.
LEAGUE Refund Policy: A 20% administrative fee is deducted for all refund requests more than four (4) weeks prior to league starting; a 50% refund if withdrawal requested more than two (2) weeks prior to league starting; no refunds are given less than two (2) weeks prior to the start of the league.
