CODING Through the use of Code Studio and Scratch students will examine the connections between elements of mathematics and computer science in a fun and engaging environment. Students will also engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 3-4 topics and texts, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly. • Construct a program as a set of step-by-step instructions to be acted out. • Develop a simple understanding of an algorithm using computer-free exercises. • Use the basic steps in algorithmic problem solving to design solutions. • Describe and analyze a sequence of instructions being followed. • Use visual representations of problem states, structures, and data. • Use abstraction to decompose a problem into sub problems. • Examine connections between elements of mathematics and computer science including binary numbers, logic, sets, and functions. • Students will generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem. ROBOTICS Time to create, build, and explore with LEGO Robotics! Students will build and program simple LEGO models using computers in small teams. Students will have the opportunity to complete 12 theme based activities in a fun, safe, and problem solving environment.
