CITs (Counselors in Training) are required to attend Outdoor Leadership camp (offered in Summer). Please call our office (919-489-0900) before registering if your child has not attended Outdoor Leadership camp, but is interested in becoming a CIT. Old fashioned camping skills are a lost art. Come, reclaim the old ways of making a wonderful place in the wilderness that feels like a second home. We will practice the old style skills such as fire making, knot tying, whittling and more. This camp is all about skills that we can learn and do ourselves that make the wilderness a welcoming place. Try your hand at finding wild foods. Practice knife safety and whittling and carve your own walking sticks. Strike flint and steel fires. Find out how to lay different kinds of fires for different foods. Hear the stories of the old woodsmen and woods women who walked in the wilderness and discovered the joy of the outdoor life when it was all but forgotten many years ago. CIT's are expected to be at camp from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Drop off as early as 7:45 am.
