Our popular Violin Beginnings Level 1 and Level 2 classes have combined to offer families one convenient 30-week class!
Students in Violin Beginnings start their strings journey at the very beginning, accompanied by their parents. Starting with learning to hold the violin and bow, students will learn fundamental violin technique in a musical and engaging way. Pitch and rhythm, which are essential building blocks for a young musician, will be taught through dynamic and imaginative games. New pieces and repertoire will be taught at each class, drawn from Joanne Martin's Magic Carpet for Violin and the Suzuki Violin School, Volume 1. Special listening activities and story time in class will introduce students to the diverse history of the violin and classical music.
This class will be taught using a combination of Suzuki, Rolland, and traditional methods. Lesson books and class materials will be provided.
Students are required to rent/purchase their own child-size violin. Please read our String Instrument Rental Guidelines and be prepared to come to the first class with a violin. Please contact us at academy@gmu.edu if you have any questions.
Online registration closes 2 business days before the first class, however space may still be available! Please contact the office to check academy@gmu.edu or 703-993-9889. A $10 late registration fee may apply.
