Register early to be sure of getting the trip you want. If you want to stay at the car site instead of backpacking, when you register also email the Backpacking Coordinator (above) to let us know. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is between Fredericksburg and Llano. It is about a 2-hour drive from Austin. When we arrive at the park, it is an easy night hike about a mile to our campsites. We will spend most of Saturday exploring the Rock and surrounding hills and trails. We will leave the park for Austin after lunch on Sunday. Drivers will be trip leaders, trip assistants and/or parents. Participants who ride in Camp Fire vans or with volunteer drivers are encouraged to bring an appropriate contribution for their driver’s gas. Backpackers should bring their own gear and meals including Sunday lunch, as detailed in equipment list. Bring water containers sufficient for approximately 1.5 gallons of water per person. Water containers may be filled at the Park, but not in the backcountry. We also have a reservations for one frontcountry (car camping) site, water-only, no hookups at Enchanted Rock, for each trip. This would be for up to 8 people who are not backpacking but would like to base camp. This will allow us access to fire rings for our skills workshops. This trip includes skills workshops in firebuilding and fire safety, and outdoor safety. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area offers lots of exploring, including the Rock itself, surrounding canyons and boulders, crevices (“caves”) deep in the rock.
