About This Activity

Activity Advisors: NorCal House of Chess Email: norcalhouseofchess@gmail.com Dates: Mondays with the first meeting on 9/9 and the last meeting on 5/18 (No club meetings on: 10/14, 11/11, 11/25, 12/16, 12/23, 12/30, 1/20, 2/17, 3/16, and 4/13) We are happy to announce that NorCal House of Chess (voted #1 chess club in the US by the United States Chess Federation in 2015) will be back this year to provide chess classes at BASIS Independent Fremont. Over the years, NorCal has produced several State Champions, National Champions, and even International Champions! During the first year of NorCal forming a chess team at BASIS Independent Fremont, our students skyrocketed to 1st place (in the Kindergarten Section) at the Grade Level State Championship! NorCal also brought several students to Nationals and won 1st place at the National Junior Congress in the 6 & 8 under division. Two of our current students are currently training in the top 100 nationwide in their age group. Last year, the BASIS Independent Fremont chess team also won the K–3 Division of the Varsity Section at the Super State Championship in the Santa Clara Convention Center. We even had a student win the 2nd grade National Championship that was held in Orlando, Florida last December! Expert coach Ted Castro has teamed up with International Masters and top-notch coaches from NorCal to teach and train students at BASIS Independent Fremont. Whether your child is a beginner who just wants to learn the basics or an advanced player who wants to go the next level, we will train him/her! There have been many studies that suggest playing chess has improved students’ test scores in both math and science. All you need to do is register, show up and we’ll do the rest!
