About This Activity

Adult Advisor: Roopak Gupta Email: roopak022875@gmail.com Student Advisor: Rishi G. Dates: Fridays with the first meeting on September 2nd and the last meeting on March 31st Time: 4:45 PM - 5:45 PM Location: Virtual Grades: 6-11 Duration: Annual Available Spaces: 15 Cost: $50 Description: Chess is a popular game and has gained in popularity recently because of the Netflix Series, Queen's Gambit. Chess has been proven to improve cognitive skills which include concentration, pattern recognition, decision making, algebraic and geometric thinking, problem-solving, spatial reasoning, and memory capacity. It also improves self-confidence and self-worth in kids. It increases attention span, which is absolutely essential in today's online world. Chess has provided me with great benefits, so this club will allow me to teach others how to improve these various skills in an enjoyable way. Chess increases critical thinking which in turn helps kids become responsible adults and manage challenges in their life efficiently. Kids can enhance life skills also via chess-like learning from mistakes, considering consequences, thinking ahead, and building confidence. Chess is also a great equalizer, unlike other sports, where players do not have an advantage based on their age, gender, size, race, or religion. Research has shown that chess instruction helps students on the ADHD spectrum improve patience, perseverance, and concentration. For many parents, this will help their kids with cognitive training which in turn will help them improve behavior, attention, and listening skills. Official Meeting Dates: 9/2, 9/9, 9/16, 9/30, 10/7, 10/21, 10/28, 11/4, 11/18, 12/2, 12/9, 12/16, 1/6, 1/13, 1/20, 1/27, 2/3, 2/10, 2/17, 3/3, 3/10, 3/24, 3/31
