The Teen Novice class is designed just for teens regardless of ability or experience. With boats for two people, teens can learn to sail or improve their skills if they have taken lessons in prior years. PROGRAM: the goal and focus of this level is to help students achieve independence through basic sailing skills: tack. gybe, steering, sail trim and working with others in a sailboat. Basic skills will be introduced to those who are new to sailing, and more experienced students will practice previously learned sailing techniques. Within each day’s lesson students will rig their boat for sailing, and then de-rig at the end of the day – we expect students to be responsible for all the equipment in a caring manner at all times. Each session will feature fun activities that allow students to use their advanced skills in an applied situation that is fun: scavenger hunt, distance sailing, man-overboard drills, and sailing around buoys. Knots and vocabulary are learned throughout. SAILING: we will use the Club 420's for this level of instruction.
