About This Activity

CODING - FUNDAMENTALS And COMPUTER SCIENCE Ages 6 to 10 WE KNOW HOW TO MAKE CODE FUN! “Instead of just PLAYING video games, we teach your kids DESIGN and how to PROGRAM them!” Learn, design and experiment with code and art! Gain knowledge in coding fundamentals and then rapidly proceed to using that knowledge with confidence while creating your own robots, games and animations. The goal in the camp is to let campers move at their own pace and use their own ideas, to select artistic coding projects of their own choice. WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN Learn about control and sensors while programming the mini robot, the Ozobot. Become a digital artist, creating your own characters, gifs and animations. Design, create and share your new games. Learn about graphical / block coding. Play and make your own games using Scratch. We follow several sets of curriculum The curriculum for middle school students and upper elementary school students is based on the Scratch programming platform developed by MIT. The other curriculum is for younger students (Grades K through 2). The curriculum for the younger students is based around the Scratch JR platform developed by Tufts and MIT. Our camps combine the the essence of a college seminar (in terms of open discussions, presenting and defending one’s own work, and collaboration) and a Montessori classroom (helping one another, flexible curriculum and focus, and collaboration). The program was developed by a Montessori Certified Teacher and College Computer Science majors. We supply the computers (one per student). Students learn structured programming, computer science {from the beginning or we take them where they are}, how to make games, animations, etc. Advanced students can study robotics and Python. Programming will become as natural as breathing when kids; WORK WILL BE SENT HOME ON FLASH DRIVES!
