The college counseling office is pleased to offer Preparing for the College Application Essay Workshops to Blake rising seniors. This class is designed to meet three objectives: 1. To build understanding of competitive responses to the various types of college essay prompts and a writing process toward those responses; 2. To increase self-awareness from which to draw essay material; 3. To empower students and reduce college essay stress. Students will be asked to read sample essays ahead of time (should take an hour or less), participate in class discussion and engage in a simulation exercise. The class will include review of the assigned reading, presentation of additional materials, an exploration of the college essay as a literary genre, and a look at holistic admission practices and the writing process. Please note: Students will not write their college essays as part of the class. The foundation for essay writing will be set by the students’ preparation before class and the four hours of class instruction. This class is open to Blake rising seniors only.
