Program 1 (Heart of the Valley League) Grades 3-6: Heart of the Valley (HOV) is for boys in grades 3 ? 6 and is a league that introduces team play with the emphasis on individual skill development, introduction to game situation, and is less competitive. The purpose of this program is to start to introduce competitive play with less focus on winning. Individual development is emphasized. This program provides a fun level of learning the game. No boy will be cut and if a grade fields more than one team, the players will be split equally. All players will have equal playing time to the best of the coach?s ability.
HOV games will take place on November 2, November 9, and November 16. Teams will travel to a school within the Fox Valley area and play approximately three games each Saturday. This program will allow boys with different skill levels to compete on the same team. There will be 1 ? 2 practices per week for each team. This program is open to both public and parochial school boys, as well as those boys who are homeschooled. Practices for the HOV season will begin in October.
Program 2 (Traveling Tournament Teams) Grades 3 ? 8: Traveling Tournament Team provides competitive play for boys in grades 3 ? 8 who want to compete at a higher level. This program will allow boys with similar skills to compete on the same team, allowing the learning experiences this format provides. This level will allow us to be competitive with other schools' top teams. Tournament teams will play competitively in weekend tournaments in and around Northeast Wisconsin. The number of tournaments will be determined by grade level. Practices for the tournament season will begin any time between October ? December, based on grade level. There will be 2 practices per week for each team.
Team Make up: 7 ? 8 players on a team. Our goal is to have more teams with fewer players to allow for more playing time. Additional coaches will need to be secured to reach our goal.
· 3rd and 4th grade ? teams will be divided evenly.
· 5th through 8th grade ? teams will be divided by most skilled 7 ? 8 players, then the next 7 ? 8 players and so on. Coaches will attempt to select tournaments that are appropriate for the skill level of the team.
Length of season: Starts in December and runs through March. Season may extend to April depending on grade level State Tournament (5th ? 8th grade). The 7th and 8th grade teams will start after their Middle School basketball season.
Recommended tournament entries by grade, including our home tournament:
- 3rd grade: 3-4 tournaments 4th grade: 4-5 tournaments
- 5th grade: 5-6 tournaments 6th grade: 6-7 tournaments
- 7th grade: 6-7 tournaments 8th grade: 6-7 tournaments
Fast Break Club Mission: The mission of the Fast Break Club is to develop fundamentals, teamwork, self-confidence, and sportsmanship in New London youth basketball players. The purpose of the Fast Break Club is to promote and provide different levels of basketball opportunities to any boy attending a school (public, parochial, or home) in the New London School District. The Fast Break Club includes boys in grades K ? 12.
Option 1 ? Volunteer Your Time: The Fast Break Club sponsors numerous tournaments throughout the season (one Heart of the Valley tournament on December 2nd and one home tournament for each grade?s traveling team in January). These tournaments are a one-day event, taking place on Saturday or Sunday. If this option is chosen, your family is expected to sign up for either concessions, admission at the door, set-up, clean up, keeping score, or keeping the clock at as many tournaments as your child competes in. (example: Your son plays HOV and is on the traveling team. You are expected to volunteer at two tournaments throughout the season). As the tournaments near, volunteer sign-up will occur on a first-come/first-served basis via online registration. Total amount of volunteer time will not exceed 6 hours for the season.
Option 2 ? Payment Buy Out: If you are unable to volunteer your time at our home tournaments, a payment of $150 can be made to The Fast Break Club. This money will go to pay members from another organization (TBD based on date and availability) to assist in the tournament duties stated above. This payment is due at registration.
