About This Activity
Description
(Ages 11-18)
Led by Levine's Jazz Program Chair, Gary Prince, the Maryland Jazz Band is designed for middle school and high school students new to ensemble playing who wish to study and perform jazz. Throughout the semester, students study jazz repertoire, develop improvisation skills, and build on their ability to work as a group.
Positions are available for all instruments. Students perform regularly throughout the year and previous groups have participated in masterclasses with renowned guest artists, such as the Airmen of Note.
Please note: An audition is required for all new students. Auditions are held the week before rehearsals begin and consist of C, Bb, and F major scales; a short musical excerpt of the student's choice; and sight-reading. For more information, and to schedule an audition, please contact Gary Prince, Jazz Program Chair, at (202) 686-6000 x1016 or gprince@levinemusic.org.
Please note: Students who are enrolled in private lessons qualify for a $30 tuition discount for this ensemble during the same semester. To apply the discount, please contact Student Services at (202) 686-8000 x1076 OR 1042.
