This program will take place at our Oakland location from 4PM-6PM on the following dates: Feb 5 Feb 12 Feb 19 Feb 26 This program is designed as an opportunity for students age 10-17 to receive volunteer experience and learn about animal welfare. All participants will receive a total of 8 hours of service credit for attending all four days of the program. This program is supervised by our Humane Education staff, so there is no need for parents/guardians to be present. Participants will be completing a variety of tasks to assist East Bay SPCA programs and the animals in our care. The tasks for each day are dependent on our organization’s needs at that moment. Some examples of potential Volunteer Club tasks include making dog treats, assisting with shelter laundry, creating adoption posters, preparing for upcoming East Bay SPCA programs or events, making cat toys, assisting with shelter clean-up, providing attention for the animals in our care, etc. Please note that this is a volunteer program–while all volunteer tasks will be centered around helping the shelter and the animals in our care, participants should not expect to spend the full session with the shelter animals. In order to make sure our animal-loving participants still get the dog and cat time we know they love, we will plan to include a minimum of one hands-on animal meet-and-greet per day. As an animal shelter is a very dynamic environment, the planned daily tasks are always subject to change based on the needs of our staff, volunteers, and shelter animals. Participants will receive one volunteer shirt on their first day of their initial session only (students who have participated in previous months of the program will not receive a new shirt).
