About This Activity

Description

We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Monday, June 6, 2022.

Use this to apply for private lessons in violin, viola, cello, clarinet, saxophone, or intermediate to advanced piano (after 2 years of group class study) at the Community Music Center. This is essentially a waitlist; you are not enrolled in lessons until placed with a teacher by CMC staff and then make payments and other arrangements via CMC office.
Individual LessonsThrive with customized instruction. Build the skills & abilities needed to enjoy music as a participant, gaining self-confidence and developing self-expression.
Zoom or In-PersonInstruction occurs online via Zoom or in-person at the Community Music Center. Specify your preferred choice during the registration process. In-person lessons are under strict Covid safety guidelines which will meet or exceed OHA requirements. Important note: if you choose Zoom, it is likely that you will not be able to change to in person through the rest of the Fall term.
Pay What You Can Pricing Lessons are $28/30 min, $42/45 min, or $52/60 min. We understand that our activity fees may be a barrier to participation for some members of our community. If you are unable to pay the full fee amount, you may use the discount feature during the checkout process for discounts. If additional assistance is needed beyond the discounts available at check-out, contact CMC staff at 503-823-3177. Need-based scholarships are offered courtesy the non-profit Community Music Center, Inc. To learn more or donate, visit www.communitymusiccenter.org.
Enrollment ProcessYou are enrolling in a waitlist to register for up to 10 weeks of lessons, October through mid-December with Thanksgiving week off. To complete online enrollment, you will be required to make a payment at checkout. Monthly payment plans are available. If you need to pay by check or cash, register in person at CMC (call 503-823-3177 to make an appointment). You will be contacted by staff when a placement with an instructor is available. Please allow several weeks for application processing.
Lessons are scheduled between instructor and student at a mutually agreeable day and time, as verbally confirmed. Your instructor may require materials not included in registration fee. Beginners start with 30 minute lessons; advanced students (playing concertos or sonatas) move to 45 minute lessons; 60 minute lessons are provided in special cases. Suzuki, traditional, hybrid, and other instructional methods are used, depending on the instructor. Daily individual practice between classes is a required part of successful music instruction.
Required Enrichment ClassDuring the School Year, CMC requires private lesson students to participate in a concurrent enrichment class, or apply for an exemption if participating in similar activities elsewhere. Separate fees apply for CMC's enrichment classes, and enrollment for the classes is in addition to the private lesson registration.
School YearIt is expected that students will continue in Winter and Spring Terms, however students must re-enroll to continue beyond Fall term (there is no automatic rollover from Fall to Winter & Spring).
InstrumentsInstrument rentals may be available - indicate your need for an instrument at the time of pre-registration or fill out our online rental request form (https://cmc.z2systems.com/np/clients/cmc/survey.jsp?surveyId=50)
