About This Activity

Experience the most epic battlefields of the Civil War- Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg and Gettysburg. Relive Pickett’s Charge, cross Burnside’s Bridge, climb Marye’s Heights, and traverse Devil’s Den. New this year: visit Chancellorsville, site of the last major Confederate victory and the place where Stonewall Jackson was mortally wounded. Also, discover the Defenses of Washington, DC including Forts Washington, Ward, and Stevens! Tour the National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, VA to see real Civil War weaponry up close. Discover Civil War artifacts at the American History Museum. Witness the final drama of the War at Ford’s Theater. Also, experience lesser known battlefields like Monocacy River and Ox Hill. New this year: Balls Bluff Battlefield in Leesburg, VA! Finally, spend a day in the life of a Civil War soldier learning how to march in formation, dress in uniform, set up a campfire, and participate in a water gun battle re-enactment also using a water balloon launcher to better understand Civil War-era Artillery. Battlefields, museums, forts and other historic sites will be divided up in chronological order over the course of two unique weeks, from the first major battle to President Lincoln’s assassination. Sign-up for both weeks to get the full experience!
