The Bright Beginnings Friendship Group is designed to promote the development of social skills and positive peer relationships within a child's school environment. Groups consist of approximately 6-8 children and meet for 40 minutes each week for eight weeks. During each session, children will engage in carefully planned, interactive, play-based activities to learn and practice age appropriate skills. Targeted strategies and tips for families will be sent home for practice after each meeting. Parents will be contacted by the group leader before the first session. Group focus will be: 1) promoting positive social interactions (peer interactions, turn-taking, listening, responding, body language), 2) problem solving strategies (understanding feelings), and 3) confidence building (self-esteem, self-awareness). Groups are facilitated by Debbie Peyser, M.Ed, Georgetown Hill Specialist and founder of Behavioral Support Network, LLC. Debbie is a certified school counselor and early childhood educator with 20 years of experience working in public elementary schools.
