For the summer of 2020, The Prairie School’s Center for Developing Excellence’s STEAM Academy will offer current 7th and 8th grade students unique opportunities to improve their Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math skills. This summer, during a unique problem-solving/team building activity, students will simulate being marooned on a strange island where they will encounter a variety of difficult and fun challenges that their team must overcome. Students will also take a “trip” to the planet Mars where they will come in contact with several small creatures that they must calculate how to return to Earth using a multitude of complex variables. To round off the week, students will use their scientific skills to solve complex problems in the Racine Downtown area during a unit called “The Amazing Race.” As with all STEAM Academies, students will develop team building/problem solving skills and make many new friends during the course of the week. Register begins January 13th, slots fill up fast, and there are a limited number of openings. For those who attended last year as 6th or 7th graders, this is a completely NEW SERIES of labs and activities! Enrollment deadline is May 15, 2020. The STEAM Academy is putting the FUN back into teaching the FUNdamentals. *The CDE STEAM Academy does not qualify for the Summer on the Prairie early bird discount.
