Join the Marine Science Institute for a 2.5-hour exploration of the San Francisco Bay aboard the 90-foot research vessel, the R.V. Robert G. Brownlee and discover the life in the estuary and how we are connected to it. Working as a team, participants deploy a 16 foot trawl net to bring fishes on board, set a Peterson Mud Grab to collect a sample of sediment from the bottom of the bay (the benthos) to examine closely to discover live invertebrates, and lastly observe and discuss live plant and animal plankton using a microscope and digital display. Don't forget a lunch because you will get to enjoy it while cruising around the South Bay! What an exciting day!
