This unit will challenge students to think critically and solve real world problems. We will utilize hands-on activities to solve engineering problems centered around the ocean and the life within it. Students will work in teams, with limited supplies, to solve engineering problems. February 11 – PROJECT: Hurricane House Hurricanes threaten coastal communities every year. They bring strong winds, storm surge flooding, heavy rainfall, and tornadoes. When building houses in tropical areas, engineers take hurricanes into consideration; they are built on stilts, equipped with hurricane shutters, or made of concrete to combat the effects of violent weather. This week, we will design and construct model homes and test them against the elements! For ages 6-13.
