About This Activity

Reading foreign literature can shift the way we think or interact with those around us. By reading foreign literature, we raise awareness for issues across the globe that deserve exposure, and we become globally aware of more than just our backyards. In this student-led club, students will read and critically analyze novels translated from other languages. Students will discuss readings over Schoology in response to critically crafted discussion questions, specifically considering the cultural implications of the novel and their significance. Some books students will potentially read include, In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alveraz, Professor Dowell’s Head by Alexander Belyqur, and Alpha by Bessora Barroux. For questions regarding specific club details, please contact the Activity Advisor, Dr. Elizabeth Pittman. Skills Developed: Vocabulary Enrichment, Critical Thinking, Love and Acceptance for Diversity
