About This Activity
Math Team practice prepares 5th through 8th grade students who will be competing in the Math League and MathCounts competitions with the YSCP Math Team during the 2024-2025 school year. During practice, advanced math topics are discussed and students practice for the different math competitions. Miss E-H, one of the middle school math teachers, is the Math Team Coach. There are 5 Math League meets which are held on Wednesdays and potentially one Saturday throughout the year (approximately once a month); the MathCounts (a national math competition for middle schoolers) regional competition is typically scheduled for the first Saturday of February, with the possibility of going on to higher levels of the competition. It is important that only those students who can commit to all competitions are signed up for Math Team. Please be advised that Math Team will begin in late September/early October and end before the Extended Day program ends in the spring; the exact dates will be set once the competition dates are set. If interested in joining Math Team, please contact Miss E-H directly (essingerhileman@yscp.org); registration for this club will occur with Mrs. Khan once the team has been finalized. There is an extra fee associated with this club: $120 for the entire year, to be paid at the beginning of the school year; the extra fee goes towards competition fees and materials.
